Concerts are held inside the Mazie Jones Gallery and showcase musicians from a variety of genres, styles, and backgrounds. Past performances have included folk, jazz, blues, and even Irish and Cajun music. But traditional bluegrass and old-time string music is the bread and butter of the Jones House, and these concerts will feature some of the best pickers, fiddlers, and musical storytellers our region has to offer. All concerts are $20.00 per person. Advanced reservations are required, please call or email to reserve your seats.

Upcoming Concerts:

    • Sunday, February 12 – Blue Ridge Girls, 4:00 pm. Mountain Music. Martha Spencer, Brett Morris, and Jamie Collins.
    • Sunday, March 12 – Beppe Gambetta, Workshop at 1:00 pm, Concert at 4:00 pm.“How to be creative with Flatpicking from Doc Watson’s legacy to different traditions.”   In this masterclass we will show examples of techniques from different musical traditions and how we can use them to open doors to creativity in arranging, adapting and composing with the guitar. There is a common thread of passion and poetic expression in the techniques developed in the roots music of different cultural areas. By moving along and tying this thread in different ways, we can discover unexplored parts of our creativity. We will show melodies with different aesthetics and how to practice the art of choosing, transforming and combining the different elements.
    • Sunday April 2 – Foghorn Stringband, Workshop at 1:00 pm, Concert at 4:00 pm. -“Intermediate Old-Time ‘Rhythm & Repertoire’ Workshop.” Players of any of the traditional old-time instruments–fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, and more–will be guided as a group through a selection of interesting tunes, with melodic, structural, and chordal details emphasized. While instrument-specific technical instruction will not be provided, we will present the tunes at manageable tempos for on-the-fly learning, suggest appropriate chord progressions, and encourage questions and discussion throughout the class. Participants can expect to come away with new repertoire to make their own as well as a heightened understanding of how to analyze fiddle tunes for clearer learning in the future. The use of recording devices is strongly recommended so that the class material can continue to be finessed at home.
    • Friday, May 12 – Patrick Crouch & Milan Miller – 7:00 pm. Caldwell County native, Patrick Crouch, started playing music as a boy, and music has been central to his life ever since, as a performer, recording artist, recording engineer, middle school band teacher, and enthusiastic promoter of the region’s musicians and venues. Patrick grew up in Caldwell County with a musical family and community.  His father played bluegrass and gospel music, and Patrick was surrounded by the sounds of homemade music from his neighbors as well as popular country, bluegrass, and rock music from radio and records.  Patrick recalls toting his guitar to school as an 11-year-old student, singing songs from his Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard records.  He also cites his school music teachers as very influential, helping him develop an ear for instrumental music and a strong singing voice.Milan Miller is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist. He often jokes that he first moved to Nashville in 1999 because he “heard they were running out of guitar players,” but with a wry southern wit and his trusty tenor voice, he has built a reputation as an adept artist, songwriter and collaborator. Traveling the world, Milan has made appearances at venues ranging from Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater to Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, California, and from the Grand Ole Opry to Symphony Hall with the Boston Pops Orchestra. In addition to his standout solo recordings, Milan’s songs have been recorded by some of the biggest names in bluegrass, including Balsam Range, Lonesome River Band, Steep Canyon Rangers, Terry Baucom, Tim O’Brien, Buddy Melton, Sam Bush, Missy Armstrong, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out, the Grascals and many others.  Along the way he has scored thirty-three number one songs in the genre, over three dozen others that have graced the top twenty, two nominations for Song of the Year and was named the Songwriter of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2020.
