Darren Nicholson – A GRAMMY nominee and winner of 13 International Bluegrass Music Association awards, Haywood County native Darren Nicholson has taken his own brand of mountain music around the world. A regular for years on the Grand Ole Opry out of Nashville Tennessee, and a founding member of acclaimed bluegrass group Balsam Range, Darren now spends his time recording, writing new songs, and performing. You can catch Darren almost every week sharing the music he loves somewhere, traveling both nationally and internationally – as a solo artist, with his own Darren Nicholson Band, or in collaboration with other musicians. Darren’s critically-acclaimed new album “Wanderer” released in June 2023.

The Darren Nicholson Band features Kevin Sluder on bass and vocals and Richard Foulk on percussion.

Special guests for the Grey Eagle event include:

Kristin Scott Benson is the five-time International Bluegrass Music Association’s Banjo Player of the Year and recipient of the 2018 Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass.

Since 2008, she has been a member of Grammy-nominated and two-time IBMA Entertainers of the Year, The Grascals. Kristin is one of the nation’s top bluegrass banjo players, exhibiting impeccable taste, timing, and tone. With an attentive ear to back-up, she is known and respected as a true team player among her peers.

Many consider her to be one of the first females to successfully be a side-musician in a top-tiered bluegrass band.

Drew Matulich is a multi-instrumentalist with 30 years experience on guitar. Drew has toured the country playing music professionally with Billy Strings for two years and has shared the stage with David Grisman, Bryan Sutton, Sam Bush, Cody Kilby, Sierra Hull, and more of the best in bluegrass. Drew performs in various bands and projects around Asheville and Western North Carolina, including The Grass is Dead and The Utility Players.

Jennifer Nicholson is an accomplished vocalist who is prominently featured on Darren’s new album Wanderer. In addition to performing, Jennifer works as a music teacher in the Asheville school system.

Max Etling is a bassist and guitarist from Minnesota who has performed with the ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band, Seth Mulder & Midnight Run, Barton’s Hollow, and more.
