Larry & Joe is the duo of Joropo maestro Larry Bellorín (Monagas, Venezuela) and GRAMMY-nominated bluegrass and old-time star Joe Troop (Winston-Salem, North Carolina). These two virtuosic multi-instrumentalists fuse their respective Venezuelan and Appalachian folk traditions on the harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, upright bass, guitar, and maracas to inspire joy and unity and to prove that music has no borders. Their engaging bilingual (esp / eng) program includes storytelling, humor, singalongs, and dancing. Program en ingles y espańol.
This concert is presented by the Ramsey Center for Appalachian Studies in collaboration with the Center for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the Latin Students Association. It is supported by a generous grant from the Madison County Tourism Development Authority.
Tickets are on sale here. They are being sold on a sliding price scale for accessibility reasons – pay what you are able to. Ticket prices do not indicate particular seats – seating is first-come, first-served and doors will open at 7 p.m. The concert will take place in MHU’s Owen Theatre. Mars Hill University students get free tickets with a special code.)
Larry & Joe es un dúo formado por el maestro del joropo Larry Bellorín (Monagas, Venezuela) y Joe Troop (Winston-Salem, Carolina del Norte), estrella del bluegrass y old-time nominado al GRAMMY. Estos dos virtuosos fusionan sus respectivas tradiciones folclóricas venezolana y apalache con el arpa, el banjo, el cuatro, el violín, el bajo vertical, la guitarra y las maracas para inspirar alegría y unidad y demostrar que la música no tiene fronteras.
