Thousands of bluegrass fans converge on the Catawba Meadows Park in Morganton for one of North Carolina's largest music events. Red White and Bluegrass grew out of the city's municipal Fourth of July celebration. What had been a one-day event now boasts a lineup of more than thirty of the biggest names in bluegrass. In 2010, it was nominated for an International Bluegrass Music Association award for "Bluegrass Festival of the Year." Visitors to the festival can enjoy a fantastic fireworks display on the night of the Fourth. Over fifty vendors set up near the stage, selling food, CDs, and other bluegrass-related items. After the show stops on the main stage, musicians jam in the campground under the light of Coleman lanterns. Nowadays you see license plates from all over the country in the parking lot, but for its size, tickets are very reasonably priced. RV and tent camping are available in the park.
