The annual Mountain Heritage Day festival is held on the campus of Western Carolina University. Mountain Heritage Day is a unique event of free, family-oriented daylong activities that celebrate Southern Appalachian music, arts, dance and culture. It is the grand-daddy of such festivals, drawing more than 15,000 guests. This year’s event has been named as one of the Top 20 festivals by the Southeast Tourism Society. Headline musical acts include Mountain Faith and Country Current, the U.S. Navy’s bluegrass band, along with Whitewater Bluegrass Company, Ol’ Dirty Bathtub and many others. Free admission, free parking, free shuttle service.
Year-round, WCU’s Mountain Heritage Center is an award-winning museum of southern Appalachian culture and history, and a regional resource for education and research, with more information available at mhc.wcu.edu.
