The annual Mountain Heritage Day festival is held on the campus of Western Carolina University. Mountain Heritage Day is a unique event of free, family-oriented daylong activities that celebrate Southern Appalachian music, arts, dance and culture. It is the grand-daddy of such festivals, drawing more than 15,000 guests. The event has been named as one of the Top 20 festivals by the Southeast Tourism Society. Headline musical acts include Mountain Faith, Balsam Range and Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, along with Whitewater Bluegrass Company, Ol’ Dirty Bathtub and many others. Free admission, free parking, free shuttle service.
