Re-Released Album, The Freshet, Raises Funds for Lost Province Center
“Originally released in 2018, The Freshet is an album of traditional songs and tunes from the northwestern corner of NC, often known as the Lost Province, recorded by Steve Kruger and Trevor McKenzie.
A limited vinyl release, now available through Bandcamp, was proudly pressed at Citizen Vinyl and made possible with support from the Friends of Buncombe County Special Collections, Watauga River Social Club, and the North Carolina Arts Council.
According to McKenzie, “This album has been many years in the making and is dedicated to the places and people across Western NC who have shaped our music.
“The album’s title track is ‘The Brushy Mountain Freshet,’ a ballad that memorializes the Great Flood of 1916. The events of 1916 have been compared to our own experiences here in western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene in the fall of 2024.”
Proceeds from the sale of the vinyl edition will go to Lost Province Center for Cultural Arts in Lansing, NC, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the continuation of traditional arts and music in our mountains. The campus of Lost Province Center served as a relief station in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.”
Citizen Vinyl released this information on December 6, 2025.
