Watching them and taking in the atmosphere at the Pick N Grin is far from a ‘regular’ experience. With light refreshments and snacks available it’s a place where people from all walks find a chair or table to sit at and relax or shake a leg. NO alcoholic beverages are served or allowed. A small fee is accepted at the door\, but children 12 can under can enter free. Open Saturday nights (doors open at 6:30) Music from 7:30pm – 10:30pm. SUMMARY:Zuma Coffee Bluegrass Jam Session
DESCRIPTION:Every third Thursday evening of the month\, Zuma Coffee becomes a crowded bluegrass and old-time music venue. Those who want to get a seat inside the place should arrive a good bit earlier than the 7 p.m. start time. The eager-to-play musicians often get going before seven\, and the gathering crowd grows large as a result. The jam session is part jam and part stage show. The musicians face the audience and not each other\, as is the customary arrangement at a mountain jam session\, and most stand to play\, rather than sitting. All musicians who want to join in and play are welcomed\, regulars or not\, and a place in the line is made available. The jam session is open to everyone and focuses on old-time and bluegrass music. Listeners are welcome. The coffee is tasty and dinner is served!

In 2026\, Shindig on the Green\, which features a stage show and informal jam sessions around the park\, continues at its original location — formerly known as City County Plaza\, now transformed into the new Pack Square Park. Locals and visitors alike come together downtown “along about sundown\,” or at 7:00pm for those who wear a watch\, until 10:00p.m. Concessions are available. Come experience the beautiful music and dance traditions of Southern Appalachia on a summer evening in the mountains. \nSince 1967\, this mountain tradition features an always-enjoyable variety of performances by: \n\nLong-standing house band The Stoney Creek Boys\nBluegrass and Old-Time String Bands\nBig Circle Mountain Dancers\nClog Dancers\nSmooth Dancers\nBallad Singers\nStorytellers\n\nIn 2019\, Shindig on the Green was selected as the 2nd Place “Uniquely Asheville” award winner for Holiday Event – Summer/Fall. \nThe Folk Heritage Committee produces Shindig on the Green and its sister event\, the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival\, to support the preservation and continuation of the traditional music\, dance and storytelling heritage of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. Between 2\,000–3\,000 people attend Shindig on the Green evenings for free throughout the summer. In addition to throngs of locals\, visitors routinely travel from out of state\, across the country\, and even around the world to make their way to downtown Asheville for Shindig on the Green. \nShindig on the Green occurs thanks to the talent and generosity of its volunteer musicians and dancers who span several generations much to the delight of those in attendance. From young children perfecting their square dance steps to great-grandmothers singing ballads passed down through the years\, the region’s wealth of traditional talent takes center stage. Very convenient to Shindig\, Buncombe County’s Charlotte Street Parking Deck is directly across College Street from Pack Square Park and the Buncombe County Courthouse. SUMMARY:Zuma Coffee Bluegrass Jam Session
DESCRIPTION:Every third Thursday evening of the month\, Zuma Coffee becomes a crowded bluegrass and old-time music venue. Those who want to get a seat inside the place should arrive a good bit earlier than the 7 p.m. start time. The eager-to-play musicians often get going before seven\, and the gathering crowd grows large as a result. The jam session is part jam and part stage show. The musicians face the audience and not each other\, as is the customary arrangement at a mountain jam session\, and most stand to play\, rather than sitting. All musicians who want to join in and play are welcomed\, regulars or not\, and a place in the line is made available. The jam session is open to everyone and focuses on old-time and bluegrass music. Listeners are welcome. The coffee is tasty and dinner is served!

DESCRIPTION:Every third Thursday evening of the month\, Zuma Coffee becomes a crowded bluegrass and old-time music venue. Those who want to get a seat inside the place should arrive a good bit earlier than the 7 p.m. start time. The eager-to-play musicians often get going before seven\, and the gathering crowd grows large as a result. The jam session is part jam and part stage show. The musicians face the audience and not each other\, as is the customary arrangement at a mountain jam session\, and most stand to play\, rather than sitting. All musicians who want to join in and play are welcomed\, regulars or not\, and a place in the line is made available. The jam session is open to everyone and focuses on old-time and bluegrass music. Listeners are welcome. The coffee is tasty and dinner is served!

Ron and Elizabeth Murray\, with the blessing of Agnes Joines and Jack Joines\, have moved the Jubilee and its love of Old Time Mountain Music to its new location at 562 N. DESCRIPTION:Jimmy’s Pick N Grin Music Hall was created by the son of late Singer/Musician Jimmy Jordan. Steve\, and wife Sue Jordan have created a place where locals and visitors can come and enjoy local and regional musicians play country and bluegrass music\, complete with a wooden dance floor proudly maintained by the ‘regular buck dancers’. Watching them and taking in the atmosphere at the Pick N Grin is far from a ‘regular’ experience. With light refreshments and snacks available it’s a place where people from all walks find a chair or table to sit at and relax or shake a leg. NO alcoholic beverages are served or allowed. A small fee is accepted at the door\, but children 12 can under can enter free. Open Saturday nights (doors open at 6:30) Music from 7:30pm – 10:30pm.
