The Hendersonville Street Dances are more than a hundred year old tradition, preserving the heritage of Appalachian music and dance. They began in 1918 to welcome home soldiers returning from World War I. Today people gather on Monday nights in the summer to listen to traditional bluegrass music, square dance and clog. A local caller gives instructions, and beginners can take part in a basic square dance primer before the dance begins.
