Andy Griffith Museum: A short walk from the Earle is the Andy Griffith Museum, a small museum chock full of memorabilia from the Andy Griffith TV show. Mount Airy, Griffith’s hometown, was the model for Mayberry. You can still get a pork chop sandwich at the Snappy Lunch across the street from the Earle Theatre.
Mount Airy Museum of Regional History: Housed in a former mercantile store, this four story museum tells the history of the people who have lived in this area, starting with the Saura Indians. A 360 degree mural high above the first floor replicates the view of the “Hollow,” the landscape setting for Mount Airy which can also be viewed from the adjacent bell tower.
Wineries: More than three dozen vineyards and wineries – offering tours, tastings, and product sales – are within easy driving distance along the Yadkin Valley Wine Trail.
