Sims Country Bar-B-Que is in a very rural area, with the communities of Lenoir, Blowing Rock, and Boone within an easy drive up US 321.
Lenoir: Home of the largest collection of permanent public outdoor sculpture of any county of its population in the United States. Seventy-eight works of public art grace the city streets, including an installation by world renowned artist Thomas Sayre. The annual Indoor/Outdoor Sculpture Celebration is held the second Saturday in September. Also home to the Pop Ferguson Music Festival and the annual Blackberry Festival.
Blowing Rock: Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, this High Country community offers “Art in the Park,” a juried art show six times each summer in the town park. The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum (BRAHM) has an excellent permanent collection and traveling exhibits. Lots of shops, galleries, and eateries line the beautified streets.
Boone: A university town, Boone hosts many events both on and off campus. Have your picture taken with Doc Watson, whose bronze statue is seated on a bench outside the Jones House. Or visit the Hickory Ridge Living History Museum and take in the outdoor drama, Horn in the West, performed in the amphitheater each summer.
