Phipp’s General Store is located just 9 ½ miles east of Lansing, NC. Once an active general store for the area, Phipps General was closed for 55 years before it was restored as a gathering place where locals and visitors come to listen and participate in the weekly old time music jam. Phipps now houses memorabilia from times past and showcases the work of local artist for sale. The store sells hand dipped ice cream, old timey drinks, and essential grocery items.
Town of West Jefferson: Once a railroad town, West Jefferson today is known for its arts district and vibrant Ashe County Arts Council and Arts Center. A walking tour through the Historic District will take you past more than a dozen galleries as you view the 15 murals that have been designed and painted by local artists and others in the state, images that reflect the area’s history and unique mountain character. There are numerous shops and restaurants as well as the famous Ashe County Cheese Factory.

Every August, at the Lansing Creeper Trail Park along the New River, the Ola Belle Reed Festival features bluegrass in honor of native musician, and the mother of blue grass, Ola Belle Reed.
