The museum, housed in an old hewn-log cabin, features artifacts, photographs, paintings, and written information on the story of Tom Dula. The Tom Dooley Museum is part of the Whippoorwill Academy and Village, a complex of restored buildings created and cared for by Edith Carter. Approximately 12 miles from Wilkesboro, NC and 20 miles from Lenoir, NC. The Village is open April thru October and guided tours are available Wednesdays thru Saturdays (1-5pm). Wednesdays thru Friday’s may be scheduled at different times. Closed January through March except by appointment. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Whippoorwill Academy and Village tours are available by appointment only.
