Shindig on the Green

The celebrated mountain tradition Shindig on the Green showcases the region’s rich heritage through its folk musicians and dancers. Hundreds of people of all ages converge “along about sundown” on Roger McGuire Green at Pack Square Park on summer Saturdays to enjoy an evening of music and dance, with bluegrass and old-time string bands, big circle mountain dancers and cloggers, ballad singers, and storytellers on the Bascom Lamar Lunsford Stage. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets, find a spot on the grassy lawn of the park, and sit back and enjoy. When it’s time to stretch a leg, wander over to one of the onsite food vendors for a bite to eat, or hang out near one of the many impromptu jam sessions that form behind the stage or beneath the trees. The jams are open to all who enjoy listening and to anyone who wishes to join in and sing or play. Parking for the festivities is available in marked and metered spaces throughout downtown Asheville (free after 6 pm) and at the city's municipal decks (evening rates vary).

There is a major transfer point on College Stree. for public transit.  Check www.ridetheart.com for maps and schedules or call 828-253-5691.  Routes E1 and 170 provide Saturday evening service to and from the ART Station.
