Pacolet JAM is a new traditional music program for youth in its third year at Tryon Fine Arts Center. Ten weeks sessions in the fall and spring are open to students ages 8-14. The program, affiliated with JAM, Inc., provides small group classes in banjo, fiddle, guitar, as well as Appalachian dance, storytelling and singing.
New this year, PacJAM is offering adult guitar classes with instructor Phil Johnson!
The foothills area is home to many traditional singers, dancers, and musicians. The JAM program draws on this source of master musicians both as advisors and as teachers for the program. Teachers for the program are: Phil Johnson: guitar, Gaye Johnson: singing, Trey Hodge: banjo, Carley Underwood: fiddle, and Autumn Arrowood: mandolin.
