JAMS Music Lessons Program

The Boone JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians) program offers music lessons for kids and adults in traditional styles of the region for fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, ukulele, and sometimes other instruments (like dulcimer) or dancing (flatfoot!). The Boone JAMS program is an affiliate of the Junior Appalachian Musicians organization ( The program also receives support from the North Carolina Arts Council and National Endowment for the Arts.

Boone JAM features group lessons taught at the Jones House on Thursday afternoons, preceding the weekly old-time jam (7:30-11:00 p.m. every Thursday, year round). The music lessons program typically offers 15-week session in the fall (Aug-Dec), and spring (Feb-May), and a 5-week session in July. Don’t have an instrument? No problem. The program offers rental instruments for $25.00.
