- Event: An Appalachian Evening Summer Concert Series
Our annual summer concert series offers an ever-changing schedule of bluegrass, folk and old-time mountain music by award-winning artists — quality entertainment for the entire family. Rich in cultural heritage, An Appalachian Evening continues to be a favorite with locals and visitors alike. All concerts at 7:30 pm in the air-conditioned Lynn L. Shields Auditorium. A traditional Appalachian dinner is served in the Schoolhouse Cafe before each concert. The Center also hosts an annual Harvest Festival – an authentic celebration of Southern Appalachian mountain culture. The festival is the third week in October and features mountain music, clogging, a Civil War encampment, arts and crafts vendors and great food. Other center activities include traditional Appalachian craft classes, and a fine arts gallery representing over 150 local and regional artisans. The school is also to a local chapter of the Junior Appalachian Musicians (J.A.M.) program.
